The idyllic multi-racial city of Neverwinter, located on the northwestern Sword Coast of Faerun, was a stark contrast to the underground operations that happened when one closed their eyes. Beneath the splendor, craftsmanship and honorable trade, the city had a number of gangs (most notably the Dead Rats) and secret societies, such as an Asmodeus worshipping cult (Ashmadai) and a Thayan cell operating under Valindra Shadowmantle to advance Szass Tam’s agenda in the region.
Kyrios, nicknamed Ronin, was born into this underground society. His mother, an Aasimar slave, prized by her ability to communicate the will of the celestials, and his father, a Tiefling warlock, who made a pact with Asmodeus and closely supported the Thayan operations.
Separated from his mother at an early age, Ronin was brought up with a common Thayan belief; that fortune was given to the strong-willed, rather than those who showed compassion and care. To succeed in life, one must take what they want - without asking. Though his mother was a slave to the Ashmadai, he wasn’t treated as such by his father. Instead, he was treated as a prized possession, due to his unlikely heritage.
Growing up under strictly cultist and Thayan ideals of power, worship and secrecy, Ronin’s young life was sheltered and lonely. Due to his heritage, he wasn’t allowed to leave his home, thus making friends became nearly impossible. He became a small pest in his father’s eyes, playing harmless tricks on the visitors and eavesdropping on confidential meetings. He had difficulties showing empathy - in part, it was his father’s fault; Kairon was harsh and his life lessons were cruel.
